On Thursday, 8th of March 2018, we organised this year’s first mentorship session for Achimota School. Topic for discussion was “A sound mind in a sound body” and our mentors were seasoned medical officers in and out of Ghana. These doctors were Dr. Aramansah Forjoe, Dr. Kingsley Orraca-Tetteh and Dr. Yosef Koku Kwamie. In attendance was the chairman of the African Business Centre for Developing Education (ABCDE) Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah.
Dr. Aramansah Forjoe in her submission admonished students to stay away from things that may disturb their health such as drugs, excessive sugar and fat among others. She also stressed on the need to make time to sleep. She said “sleep repairs the body and keeps it fit”. Dr. Yosef Koku Kwamie in his presentation spoke on the need to engage in regular exercises since it helps manage stress. The last to speak was Dr. Kingsley Orraca- Tetteh. He touched on the need to be conscious of whatever we give and use the body for. He said “unhealthy actions weakens the body”.
The Chairman for ABCDE in his closing remarks encouraged students to be actively involved in mentorship programs because these programs are avenues to discuss issues outside their curriculum.
The successful interactive session lasted for 2 hours and 30 minutes with students asking for more.
