ABCDE (African Business Centre for Developing
Education) in collaboration with the Graphic Communications Group, launches the
Ghana Directory of Scholarships and Financial Assistance (GDSFA).
Published yearly, GDSFA
is a 200-page A4-size compendium of foreign and local sources of financial
assistance and scholarships on offer to which Ghanaian students are eligible to
apply. With a glossy cover appearance and a superb print quality, the Directory
will make global financial resources available in the form of financial
assistance and scholarship opportunities for students. Through this Directory,
ABCDE brings the world to the fingertips of the average Ghanaian to ultimately
change the narrative of the social and economic welfare of our country.
It is quite unfortunate how many students and parents struggle to pay for their children's education when there are opportunities all around them. Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah shared this when he stated that, “Most students realize how much free money is out there after already completing their studies. Beginning your journey towards scholarship is one of the best things that could happen to anyone who is passionate about education, including having dreams of a prosperous future.” The directory was funded by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints and was supported by some corporate entities like MTN, Vivo Energy Ghana, Ecom, Afro-Arab Group of Companies, Rabito, Pentecost University, GHLink, and Academic City.
The Directory is presented in six main sections to reflect the principal sources of scholarship and financial assistance funds available for Ghanaian students to access. They include:
●
Ghana
Government Scholarships |
●
Scholarships
from Foundations, Trusts, and NGOs |
●
Corporate
Scholarships and Financial Assistance |
●
Scholarships
from Educational Institutions |
●
Religious
Groups and Faith-Based Scholarships |
●
Scholarships from Foreign Governments and Embassies |
“I trust that this
publication will be used widely in all schools to enable students to easily
identify Scholarships and Financial opportunities from multiple sources both in
Ghana and abroad. I wish to encourage all Ghanaian students to take advantage of
this innovation by reading about the range of scholarship opportunities
available in this Directory.”, the minister of education through the Deputy
Minister shared.
With a yearly
circulation of 10,000 hard copies and a target of 50,000 eyeballs for Global
Internet views over the ONE (1) year period for online subscribers composed
mainly of students, parents, business decision-makers, entrepreneurs, members
of the academia, government policy-makers, consultants, and other stakeholders
in the educational sector. Funds raised from adverts and sponsorship will be
used to support scholarship and financial aid seminars to be organized in
senior high schools; polytechnics; and universities across the country to help
train students to apply for scholarships. This includes engaging the students
at various training sessions in their schools to develop their own scholarship
essays, prepare their resumes, and complete scholarship application forms.
